Rail Baltica: The People Behind the Vision. Arita Vendta

Rail Baltica is a railway infrastructure megaproject that spans across several countries. The depth of skills and expertise required to successfully execute a greenfield project of this caliber is extensive and would not be possible without our diverse team of professionals.

Welcome back to our series, “Rail Baltica: The People Behind the Vision,” where we introduce you to the members of the Rail Baltica global project team. These individuals are the driving force advancing the Rail Baltica project with their professionalism, dedication, and passion for this project.

Arita Vendta, Eligibility Controller, RB Rail AS

This week, we are pleased to introduce Arita Vendta, Eligibility Controller at RB Rail AS. Arita joined the Rail Baltica project three years ago, motivated by the unique opportunity to apply her experience in eligibility and compliance control to the largest infrastructure project in the Baltics. Since then, she has gained valuable knowledge and a deeper understanding of how complex, international projects operate.

In her role, Arita ensures that expenses comply with grant regulations, financial reports are accurate, and that funding is genuinely used to support the construction of the Rail Baltica railway. She sees the project as both a meaningful professional challenge and a chance to contribute to something with long-term regional impact.

When did you join the Rail Baltica project and what inspired you to become a part of the team?

I joined the Rail Baltica project exactly three years ago, inspired by unique opportunity to apply my previous experience in eligibility and compliance control to the biggest infrastructure project in Baltics. Along the way, I have gained a lot myself – valuable experience, new knowledge, and a much deeper understanding of how such complex, international projects operate.

How would you explain to a 5-year-old or a slightly older newcomer in the railway industry what you do in Rail Baltica?

Imagine you are building a giant Lego railway. My job is making sure everyone uses the right pieces correctly and fairly, and that we do not waste any Lego blocks along the way.

What does your job involve?

My role involves verifying that expenses comply with grant regulations, ensuring the accuracy of financial reports and audits, and ultimately safeguarding that the allocated funds are genuinely used for the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line.

What does the Rail Baltica project mean to you?

I truly hope this project succeeds, because its potential to reshape the region is enormous and worth every effort. On a personal level, it is a career-defining experience where I can apply my legal, financial, and compliance skills to something with real, lasting impact.

What advice would you give to a newcomer joining the Rail Baltica project team?

Stay curious and actively seek to understand the broader context of your tasks.

What hobbies, interests, talents do you have?

I enjoy hiking, especially in mountainous regions, as it helps me recharge and maintain balance. Weightlifting is another significant interest – it keeps me disciplined, physically strong, and mentally resilient.

How do you balance home and work life and what advice would you give to other women?

I maintain balance through clear priorities, and dedicating quality time to personal activities, including weightlifting and hiking. My advice would be – set clear boundaries and prioritize yourself!
