The new section will add an additional 12.4 km to the project. According to Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra, the 2025 plan to extend the active work section is progressing successfully.
“By the end of the year, we intend to conclude contracts for the sections from Kaunas to Panevėžys and start preparatory works. Rapid infrastructure development is now one of the main priorities of LTG, Lithuania, and the EU,” says Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra.
The tender for an additional 24.5 km of contract works on the Berčiūnai-Joniškėlis section is expected to be launched soon. As the future infrastructure extends into the Panevėžys district, Antanas Pocius, Mayor of Panevėžys District Municipality, has welcomed this development.
“The imminent entry of construction works into Panevėžys District is an important milestone in the implementation of a strategic project of European significance. We are ready to cooperate and to help, to the best of our abilities, to ensure that the construction works of the high-speed railway are carried out quickly and successfully, bringing the desired benefits,” says Pocius.
In March, a public tender was launched for the construction of the mainline to connect the under-construction Šveicarija-Žeimiai-Šėta-Ramygala line with Kaunas.
Up to 10 km double-track section from Šveicarija to Žeimiai is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
